Recently, there has been a national awareness of cost effective, efficient, safe, and evidence-based approaches to managing the “front-end” of the criminal justice system. Because of this heightened awareness, a large number of jurisdictions are seeking consultation and technical assistance to evaluate their current jail populations, assess their pretrial systems, and make recommendations for implementation of pretrial release and/or diversion programs.
To help fill this gap, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) has instituted a 2-day training that will help increase the pool of qualified technical assistance providers as well as develop local pretrial assessment experts who can provide assessment in their region and/or state. NIC is targeting practitioners who are currently employed with public or private agencies within the pretrial field and who demonstrate the requisite skills necessary to become effective at evaluating local pretrial justice functions.
