Staff furloughs & prison closures

Looking for information: 1. How many states are currently furloughing custody/security staff? We are in Nevada; 1 unpaid furlough per month. 2. How many states are considering furloughs? 3. How many states are planning to close a facilitie(s)? There are discussions on closing Nevada's oldest prison, Nevada State Prison. But I don't know if this will happen. If so, we will move staff to other facilities and attempt to not have any layoffs. 4. How many states have closed a facilitie(s) in the past year or two? We colsed Southern Nevada Correctional Center around 2 or 3 years ago. Please emial me with any of this information regarding other states. Thank you.

In Virginia, state employees had a few furlough days in 2010. James River Correctional Center will be closed effective April 1. It is currently the oldest prison in Virginia. There are approximately 160 employees that will be displaced.

Check out Washington State, they are a prime example of what not to do.

Oregon currently has between 10 and 14 furlough days (depending on your wage classification).  This is for all state workers including custody/security staff.  This is the second year we have had these.  In juvenile corrections we have avoided closing a whole facility, but have closed units.  In our DOC they are currently considering closing a facility.
