Good morning everyone. I am looking for information on what other facilities do to select supervisors. Specifically, I am looking for tests for promotion to Corporal and Sergeant. If anyone has an exam that they currently use that works for them, I would definately be interested in reviewing it and possibly adopting it. Also, many facilities do a disservice to their newly appointed supervisors and their subordinates by not providing any training to new supervisors on how to do their jobs and be effective supervisors. If anyone has a lesson plan on a training class for new supervisors that they would be willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a pretty good class on leadership that I wrote, but it basically tells what leaders are not really how to be one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a test that you are more than welcome to look at, modify and use at your disposal. The test is geared of course towards are policy but the questions are easily modified to fit your needs. If mbeedy@darcosc.com is a good email I will send it there.

Here is the test that we use to select our supervisors. I also have  oral interview questions that we ask each canidate for supervisor. If you are interested in those please let me know and I will get them to you.  If need anything else or have any further questions please let me know.

We are currently looking at using the NIC course Essential Skills for New Supervisors the 2011 version.  It comes with a self-paced course and seems to be quite good.  The DVD they send you contains all the materials needed for the course.  The Accession Number is 25151 in case you are interested in requesting it from them.
