Ada County’s Sheriff’s Office Employee Satisfaction Survey: Incorporating Employee Feedback in Decision-Making

Being fully aware that employees are reluctant to provide honest feedback to the agency, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office implemented an Employee Satisfaction Survey in 2004. The initial survey was given to employees in written form, with the result that fewer than half of the agency employees participated.ada logo

Recognizing the importance of gathering input from all employees – not just the naturally vocal ones – the Ada County Sheriff’s Office developed a method of gathering input anonymously in a way that is invaluable to agency administrators. The Employee Satisfaction Survey is now an on-line survey administered each year to all ACSO staff.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is proud of the culture that has been created at the jail and uses the survey as a barometer to monitor – among other things – how employees feel management is doing and employees’ overall satisfaction with their jobs. By recognizing and responding to what an employee thinks, wants, and suggests as ways to improve the agency, they are better able to define and communicate aspects that make their organization unique.
