Upcoming Webinar: Gender-Informed Strategies in Pretrial
NIC News & Updates

A recording of this webinar is available here:

Register now to attend this free webinar, Implementing Gender-Informed Strategies at the Pretrial Stage: Research to Practice, being held June 25 from 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET.

From the National Resource Center on Justice Involved Women (NRCJIW) and co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the National Institute of Corrections:

Research has identified women’s pathways into the criminal justice system that highlight specific risk and need factors that, if undetected, may put women at higher risk of pretrial misconduct. Professionals that serve pretrial populations are uniquely positioned at the front-end of the criminal justice system to identify and address these issues early on in a woman’s involvement in the criminal justice system. Identifying and addressing their needs at the pretrial stage can have an impact on outcomes such as failure to appear and new criminal activity.

This webinar will present key research findings unique to justice-involved women at the pretrial stage, share information about gender-informed practices and tools like the Inventory of Need (ION) that can help to identify risk and needs specific to women offenders, and provide information from a practitioner’s experience utilizing the ION. During this webinar, participants will:

  • Learn about the latest research supporting gender-responsive pretrial risk/needs assessments.
  • Gain an understanding about how to apply evidence-based, gender-responsive tools and practices helpful to achieving better pretrial outcomes for justice-involved women.
  • Learn how to assess and identify areas within their agencies where they may be able to employ gender-responsive strategies at the pretrial stage.

  • Krista Gehring, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, University of Houston-Downtown
  • Mary Ellen Still, Probation Director, Dutchess County (NY) Office of Probation and Community Corrections

Date/Time: June 25, 2015, 1:00pm - 2:30pm ET
