Hello,

I have series of questions regarding sick time and FMLA usage and would truly appreciate any information you can share.

  1. Do you do home checks or have any other system to verify whether someone that called in sick or FMLA is actually sick and/or at home during their sick day
  2. How many sick hours (not FMLA) do your officers use on average per year?
  3. How many FMLA hours (not sick) do your officers use on average per year?

In CCDOC, we recently negotiated the right to do home checks on those that call in sick or FMLA, so we are hoping to learn how other agencies do it.

Also, regarding our sick time and FMLA time usage, over the course of a year, the approx. 3000 active officers averaged 71 hours of sick time (not including FMLA) usage.  Officers earn 96 hours per year and can carry sick time over from year to year until they reach 1,250 medical hours (very few actually do this).

Of our approx. 3,000 active officers, 1,362 officers were certified to take FMLA at some point during the year.  That group averages 245 hours of FMLA usage (which doesn’t include regular sick days) throughout the course of the year.

Again, any comparable statistics are very much appreciated.  Please know that the stats we receive will not be shared outside this forum and we respectfully request the same with the stats above.

Thanks
